STELIOS PETRAKIS/EFRÉN
LÓPEZ/BIJAN CHEMIRANI

The latest project of this three musicians recognized in different
disciplines: Stelios Petrakis, one of the most well-known
performers and makers of Cretan lyra al lute of the new generation.
Efrén López, Valencian multiinstrumentalist founder of L'Ham
de Foc and collaborator with many bands dedicated to European Early
music, and percussionist Bijan Chemirani, born into a musical
family and heir to the great tradition of persian zarb. We proposed
a program of original compositions based on rhythms and scales of
different backgrounds: Crete and other Greek islands, Medieval
Europe, Turkey and Iran.

STELIOS PETRAKIS
Cretan lyra, Cretan laouto
Composer, instrumentalist and
instrument maker, Stelios Petrakis makes music influenced both by the music of
his native Crete as other related traditions he has studied for years (Greece,
Asia Minor, Istanbul, Iran, etc ...). He has released three solo albums in
collaboration with great musicians from the music scene in the island. He
performs regularly with his band in concerts in Crete and abroad in Europe, and
collaborated with Ross Daly, Keyvan Chemirani, Manolo García or Stamatis
Spanoudakis. His latest CD "Orion" was in the Top 10 of 2009 of the British
magazine "Songlines" and was awarded the "Just Plain Folks" in Indianapolis /
USA. |

EFRÉN LÓPEZ
hurdy-gurdy, rabab,
fretless guitar, kopuz, laouto
Multiinstrumentalist founder of the bands L'Ham de Foc, Aman Aman and Sabir
among others, and contributor to many projects in Early and Roots Music (Ross
Daly, Oni Wytars, Maria del Mar Bonet, Capella de Ministrers...). He approaches
the Medieval and Traditional Music through the study of modal musical systems (makam,
raga...) working together with great masters of Greece, Turkey, Afghanistan and
India (Ross Daly, Necati Çelik, Erol Parlak, Mehmet Erenler, Erdal Erzincan, Daud Khan, Ustad
Mohammed Rahim Khusnawaz, Yurdal Tokcan, Ajoy Chakrabakhti ...). He has
performed in prestigious festivals throughout Europe, North Africa, America and China and
participated in the recording of more than 60 CD's. |

BIJAN CHEMIRANI

The youngest member of the
Chemirani family, Bijan participates in all projects of the family trio,
dedicated to the zarb (or tombak), the main Iranian percussion instrument. He works
regularly with Irish musician Ross Daly. For a whi he was living in Crete where
he shared a number of musical performances with Stelios Petrakis and other
important musicians from the island like Xilouris Giorgos Stavrakakis Vassilis.
He now lives in Marseille (France), where he organizes percussion woekshops and
works on a project with Sam Karpienian, singer of Dupain. Has released the solo
albums "Eos" and "Gulistan", and he is the director of the group Oneira. |
